Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

I love when Oprah says "when you know better, you do better" (a Maya Angelou quote), and so with the success of last year's "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge we all have to agree that we now definitely know better! It's my goal to continue to be a source of motivation and encouragement when it comes to taking care of yourself internally (internal beauty determines outer beauty!) and so I'm continuing on with "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011".

As before, I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. Ultimately, each of us will do what works best individually, based on our own needs. So here are a few items to get you started:

1. Invest in a pedometer and track your steps (so, so easy!). You'll be surprised at how you'll push yourself to get more steps in each day without even realizing it! 7,000-10,000 steps a day are recommended for overall good health.

2. Take a multivitamin daily, and drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.

3. Eat fresh green vegetables at least 3x a week, and make sure you're getting adequate sleep!

4. Check out Kimberly Snyder's blog - it's filled with TONS of great tips and Kimberly is such an inspiration.

5. Yoga = JOY. Let me say that again, Yoga = JOY! If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. Consider joining the 21-day yoga challenge here.

6. I love Zee's "Firm Determination #10", and I plan to start working on that this week!

7. Enlist a partner (of course someone who shares the same goals) and hold each other accountable. That pretty much speaks for itself, right?

And just a reminder- this is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but it is an "inner beauty fitness" challenge. If you're fit internally, then there's no denying it externally! So if you lose weight, and that's your goal, then great. I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or a medical doctor - so always seek the advice of your doctor!

I'll try to tweet the things I'm doing daily to keep fit and healthy by using the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2011, so feel free to join me in sharing your updates by using it too! Oh, and if there are tips you feel I should add to this list, please leave them in the comments section and I'll be sure to add them.

Are you with me? I hope so! Let's get started!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I'm quickly checking in to find out how everyone is doing with the challenge. I'll be the first to admit that it's been rough for me - well especially since the beginning of the holiday season. I haven't given up, and my daily goal is still to get in the minimum 10,000 steps and 96oz of water. I was recently introduced to Twist organic water, and thought those of you who have issues with the daily recommended 8 glasses of water should definitely check it out!

Twist organic water is low-calorie, non-carbonated, preservative-free and available in six fruit flavors (Mango Acai, Mandarin White Tea, Lemon, Wild Strawberry, Pomegranate Blueberry & West Indies Lime). And I must admit- I'm shocked at how good they taste! I think they're worth checking out if they help with increasing your daily water intake. Would love to know your thoughts!

Ask Mischo Beauty...

This week's question comes from a follower on Twitter, who asked the following:

"What does the #HealthySexyBeautiful2010 hashtag mean? Why do you use it?"

I use the hashtag every time I tweet something related to the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge I started last year. I not only discuss external beauty on this blog, but internal beauty as well. I love educating you on the health of your hair, skin and nails and I want to be a source of motivation and encourage you to take care of yourself internally as well. And so the challenge was born!

I use the hashtag when I'm tweeting the things I'm doing daily to keep fit and healthy. I also try to post weekly updates on the blog. This was never a "weight-loss" challenge, but more of a "get fit" or "lifestyle change" challenge. If you lose weight, and that's your goal, then great.

And my disclaimer has always been that I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or a medical doctor- so always seek the advice of your doctor! That's pretty much it. I plan to continue the challenge into 2011 and will be using the #HealthySexyBeautiful2011 hashtag, so please stay tuned!

If you have beauty questions you'd like answered, please send them to

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I'm quickly checking in to find out how everyone is doing with the challenge. I would love to hear your updates! I was reading Kimberly Snyder's blog, which I'm addicted to, last week and decided to order the Chlorella tablets pictured above. After learning that Chlorella contains 92 trace minerals, vitamins, glycolipids, phycocyanin, sulfolips, carotenoids and so much more - I thought they would be good to keep around. I'm not crazy about the taste as of yet, but I'll let you know more in about a week or so...

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

Those amazing shoes I told you all about last week - the ones I loved so much- well, they were returned this weekend. After giving myself a week to break them in, and subsequently losing the skin on the back of my left ankle because of them- I couldn't take them back soon enough! I've now settled on a pair of Nike Structure 13- Bowerman Series (what I had before), so I have no issues. And as you can see (photo below), the Nike + iPod Sport Kit wireless sensor fits perfectly inside the sole of the shoe. I'm now happy again! Please update me on your progress in the comments section.

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

In keeping everyone updated, I bought new running shoes this weekend and couldn't wait to show them! The pair I took home with me were the Adrenaline GTS 11 by Brooks (photo above) and so far they seem to be the perfect combination between cushioning and support. I also picked up a little pouch to hold my Nike + iPod Sport Kit wireless sensor. I love it because it easily attaches to my shoelaces, and I'm still able to track my workouts. I'm saying goodbye to my Nike's (photo below), which always felt like heaven and never let me down. But, I decided not to purchase another pair, because once I compared them to the Adrenaline GTS 11, there was no comparison!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

So I'm checking in, as promised! I wanted to let everyone know that I've recently started working out in the morning, which is so much better then the evenings. I don't consider myself a "morning person", so it's been a challenge. But, I feel amazing afterward, which is why I'm going to continue to push myself . Oh, and I'm still drinking tons of water (from a reusable water bottle, of course!), and wanted to encourage you to get in at least 96 ounces a day.

Are you with me? Let me know!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

So this is my weekly check-in, as promised! I thought I'd share with you a few of the tools/gadgets I use to keep myself motivated and track my progress. They're as follows:

- Virgin HealthMiles Pedometer (perfect for tracking my steps)
- 2 iPods (black & red) (my playlists keep me dancing during my workouts)
- Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit (tracks my mileage on nikesplus.com)

Now all that I'm missing is a steady workout partner (yes, I still need one!). Anyone interested?

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I think a weekly check-in is in order from now until the end of the year. I'm still wearing my pedometer and challenging myself to get in at least 10,000 steps each day - in addition to doing cardio at the gym. As I stated last week, we're quickly nearing the end of the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge and I want to encourage you all to finish strong. So please keep me updated in the comments section. And so to switch things up, I added fruit smoothies (the one above was made with strawberries, raspberries, bananas, orange juice, ice, flax seed oil and protein powder) to the smoothie routine this week and they are sooooo good!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

Since we're 3 months out from the end of 2010, I quickly wanted to check in to find out where you are with the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge. I have to be honest and let you all know that I've fallen off here and there over this past year, but each time I've fallen off, I've started right back up again! As you'll remember, this was never a "weight loss" challenge, but simply a challenge to take better care of ourselves. And so I started the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2010 in order to follow tweets about our daily progress. Are you still using it? Soooo, please update me on your progress! Oh, and someone asked about the "glowing green smoothie" I tweet about some mornings. And so here are photos so you're able to see some of the process, as well as the consistency (like applesauce!).

Mischo Beauty Pick: Lancome's Teint Idole Fresh Wear Foundation, Ageless Minerale Blush & Definicils Waterproof Mascara

Just about everyone I know, as of late, has been talking about their makeup melting- off their faces that is! This summer has been like no other, with temperatures reaching 90++ degrees daily! And as I mentioned last week, I haven't given up on the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge. So that means my goal is still to get in at least 10,0000 steps daily- which means taking the stairs instead of elevators, and walking up escalators instead of riding them. So yes, as you can probably imagine, I'm having issues with makeup, too!

At any rate, Lancome has an answer! Their Teint Idole Fresh Wear Foundation is lightweight, oil free, is formulated with an SPF of 15 and protects against humidity. Most importantly the result is a "no makeup" makeup look (I love still being able to see my freckles!). The Ageless Minerale Blush is BEAUTIFUL! I can't begin to tell you how much I love Luminous Rose! It's very sheer and the color payoff is perfect. And we all know that Lancome is known for their collection of mascaras, so Definicils Waterproof is recommended to prevent smudging.

Would love to know what works for you in the heat!

Mischo Beauty Pick: Mark Cosmetics' Glowdacious Illuminating Powders & Totally Balmed SPF 15 Tinted Lip Balms

The makeup I've been wearing as of late has been melting right off of my face. I'm only partly blaming the weather (yes, it has been 90++ degrees for a few months now) because I did make a promise to myself to try and get as many steps in each day (the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge is still going on!), so that means walking up escalators and of course, taking the steps instead of the elevators! And so because of all of this, I've reduced my makeup down to the basics, and that's where Mark comes into play.

I've substituted my regular blushes for Mark's Glowdacious Illuminating Powders in "Prettied Up" and "Shimmied Up". Both give you a hint of color, along with a little bronzing and highlighting. And on my lips, I've been using "Totally Cute" and "Totally Pink" for just a hint of color. Both are sheer and are actually tinted lip balms with the bonus of being formulated with a SPF. They're perfect for me at the moment because believe it or not, my lips have been so dry lately...

Like Mark products? Would love to know.
