What's new at Shiseido for Spring 2011?

Shiseido has got a new pop-up shop in town (it closes today), and I had a chance to visit and get a sneak peek of their Spring 2011 collection. With its long history in the beauty industry, the company shows a commitment to evolving its products with the changing needs of the modern woman. If you've been a fan in the past, you will surely be excited by their new products and the improvements to old favorites.

Among the products which really caught my eye is the Body Creator Aromatic Sculpting Gel, which claims to burn fat cells and reduce the appearance of cellulite. The formula for the gel has been updated and now includes a plant sculpting complex designed to break down fat storing cells while promoting collagen production and suppressing the accumulation of fat. Are you giving it the side-eye as I was? Well, it was first released seven years ago and has a tried-and-true fan base, making it a consistent brand favorite. Does that mean it works? I am not sure, but have any of you tried it? Let me know if you have!

What else is new for Spring? There is a Refining Body Exfoliator; Replinishing Body Cream; Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist 24, a preventative and restorative line targeted at women in their 40s; and the Urban Environment UV Protection Cream. Facial sunscreen has always been a hard find for me due to my sensitive skin, but I decided to give this 35 SPF cream a try and miracle of miracles, it has not caused any allergic reaction thus far. This, combined with the fact that the cream is easy to rub in and absorbs quickly, excites my picky face!

The makeup on offer includes the Smoothing Lip Pencil and the new Shimmering Rouge -- a line of lipsticks in 13 shimmerific colors (I am crushing on "Sizzle" which is a vibrant coral) plus an ingredient that works on eradicating the fine lines around your lips. I am an enemy of those fine lines, so any opponent of them is a friend of mine! There is the Perfect Refining Foundation, whose darkest color, Deep Ochre, is my closest match, so know that if you are a woman of color deeper than Deep Ochre, Shiseido is not the place to go for foundation. Browner-skinned women may also find their Translucent Pressed Powder to be less than translucent. You may fare better with the bronzers, available in Dawn Light (light), Desert Rose (medium) and Dusk (dark), which are low on shimmer but high on color and warmth. I have been using the Dusk bronzer and love the boost it gives my face.

My favorite makeup item of the day was the Luminizing Satin Eye Color Trio, available in three new shades. I have been using the "Bouquet" trio like it is going out of style! It is a purple-violet palette that has pretty good staying power, although you will have to re-touch at least once during the length of a work day. The intensity of color is worth the extra bit of work though, for sure. "Voyage," a trio of golden earth tones, and "Punky Blues," which mixes blues with a pretty pink, are also new and full of pop.

Spring is in the air! -Zee

Mischo Beauty: Clarins Rouge Prodige Lipstick

The newest lipstick launch from Clarins, Rouge Prodige, is their answer to those of you who asked for a long-lasting, high shine formulation. The application is buildable (which I love) and is available in 16 shades from Clarins.com. My favorite of the three shades above (110 Litchi, 113 Mystic Plum & 117 Sunset) was definitely Mystic Plum- a deep, velvety plum red, making it perfect for fall!

Mischo Beauty Loves NARS "Cruella" Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil & "Red Lizard" Lipstick

I never buy matte lipsticks (they make my lips look dry) because my lips are naturally dry (and yes I do exfoliate and moisturize them!) and so it was a shock when I fell in love with NARS' "Cruella" velvet matte lipstick pencil and "Red Lizard" lipstick. Before buying them, I left them at the counter, convinced the "matte" look wasn't for me, and went looking for other options. But, after wearing this combination for about an hour, I went back for them! I couldn't deny the fact that my lips looked amazing! If shiny/glossy lips are your thing, then you won't like this combination - but, I do have a recommendation I love, which I'll post next week!

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Gucci Westman for Revlon & Ohne Titel Spring 2011

The opportunity to watch Revlon's Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, create the looks backstage for Ohne Titel was THE highlight for me for fashion week (well, so far). While talking with her backstage, she complemented me on the bold red lip I was wearing (yes!) - and little did I know at the time that her look for the show included a somewhat similar look! Inspiration for the look was drawn from the designer's vision of a "strong athletic, fresh-faced beauty".

Neutral makeup on the eyes, with a strong brow and bright lips
was the final look for half of the models. A completely nude palette was used for the remaining models, with the addition of subtle color on the cheeks. And I'd have to say that the "lip look" was a win. Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Siren" (part of the new Fire & Ice collection available 11/1/10) and Just Bitten Lipstain in "Passion" were used to achieve the bold lip. And Revlon's Colorburst Lipstick in "Fashion's Night Pout" (which was only available during Fashion's Night Out) was used on the nude lip models.

Love the lips? Let me know!

Mischo Beauty Award: 2010 Emmy Awards

The Mischo Beauty Award for the 2010 Emmy Awards goes to Christina Hendricks, supporting actress nominee for her role in "Mad Men". Wearing a lilac Zac Posen gown, with her signature red hair, Christina's makeup was inspired by Mia Farrow's iconic character from "The Great Gatsby." Celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali gave use the details on Christina's look:

Face:
Vanessa prepped the skin with Lancome's La Base Pro. To perfect Christina's already luminious skin, Vanessa used Lancome's new Teint Miracle Lit-From-Within Makeup. "It has an amazing transparent quality that leaves the skin looking flawless and luminous without being shy," said Vanessa. "I applied it with a brush and then blended with my fingers." Blending with her fingers heated up the foundation a bit, allowing for a seamless finish. Vanessa followed with Effacernes Concealer under the eyes, her "all time favorite concealer."

Cheeks:
For a fresh pop of color I used Lancome's Blush Subtil Shimmer in Pink Pool on the apples of her cheeks. Dabs of Giorgio Armani Beauty's Fluid Sheer #2 highlighted Christina's cheekbones.

Eyes:
The eye shadow was a mix of YSL's Ombre Solo Eyeshadow in Cashmere Brown and Midnight Black. "I applied there all over her lid, under the bottom lashes and blended it out past her natural lash line to softly elongate the eye," reported Vanessa.

Eye Liner:
To define and elongate the lash line, Vanessa lined the eyes with Lancome's Le Crayon Khol in Black. "I used a touch of liner under her bottom lashes but smudged it for a softer look," said Vanessa. For added depth, Vanessa used Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner in Noir at the very base of Christina's lashes.

Mascara:
Several generous coats of Lancome's Definicils Waterproof Mascara in Black were used on the top and bottom lashes.

Lips:
Christina's lips were a mix of Lancome lip colors for an effect that Vanessa described as "red with a little dash of pink." A sheer coat of Color Design Matte Lipstick in Corset was topped by Laque Fever Lipshine in Cyber Coral.

I loved her look! Who was your favorite and why?

Mischo Beauty Superstar of the Week: Karen Robinovitz: Founder & Creatrix, Purple Lab

I've been following the founder of Purple Lab, Karen Robinovitz, for over a year now since being introduced to her first product launch, Huge Lips Skinny Hips. And I must say, she's a woman after my own heart! We have somewhat similar paths in that we both attended college in Atlanta, were both pre-med majors, but most importantly we share a passion for beauty and beauty entrepreneurship.

Over the past year, not only have I witnessed the amazing take off of Huge Lips Skinny Hips, but Karen has also successfully launched a collection of foundations, concealers, blushes, eyeliners, mascaras and of course, a complete range of lip products. Great products, along with an amazing marketing/social media campaign have landed Purple Lab on HSN!

And with all that said, I'm sure you can see why she's a huge inspiration and an amazing role model- and that's why she is this week's "Mischo Beauty Superstar". To learn more about Karen and Purple Lab, check out the website , Facebook page, and follow her and Purple Lab on Twitter. Oh, and be sure to let me know if you've tried any Purple Lab products. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Mischo Beauty Pick: Black Opal True Color Stick Foundation

So you all probably know by now that Sam Fine is my absolute favorite makeup artist in the whole wide world, right?!!! And so when he says he loves a product, I'm running to check it out. This was definitely the case with Black Opal's True Color Stick Foundations. Luckily for me, I was able to use the entire color range of stick foundations during a makeup class I completed a week ago. And the results were flawless applications!

What I loved most about using the foundations is that the coverage is buildable. So if sheer coverage is your desired look, then use your fingers and apply sparingly. And if you need full coverage, then continue to apply until satisfied.

I learned that in most cases you'll probably need two shades to achieve the most natural look. My models' complexions varied- but most were lighter near the nose/cheek areas, and darker near the hairline/jawline areas. I'm impressed with this collection and feel it's definitely worth a try!

Mischo Beauty Superstar of the Week: Celebrity Makeup Artist, AJ Crimson

I've mentioned AJ Crimson about a thousand times on the blog over the past two years- remember this, this, this and this? Well, as most of you already know, it's because I was given the most amazing opportunity to see him in person and attend a class of his during a Celebrity Makeup Symposium held in Washington, DC a few years ago. I witnessed his talent- in person, and that's why I can't stop writing about him- and also the reason why he's this week's Mischo Beauty Superstar of the Week!

The photos included in this post were sent to me by Alexsa, one of the winners of the giveaway I held two weeks ago to win tickets to attend AJ's "Affordable Beauty" class held in NYC this past Wednesday. Alexsa so kindly sent me a few photos she'd taken during the class to share and said that she thoroughly enjoyed it. Please read her recap of the evening here.

As you can see, Adrienne Bailon was the "special celebrity guest" and model for the makeup demonstration.

And finally- Alexsa, AJ and Adrienne are pictured above from left to right. AJ's work is such an amazing example of "BEAUTYisTRUTH" and "BEAUTYisART". To learn more about his classes be sure to visit his website, blog and follow him on Twitter! Enjoy.

Mischo Beauty Giveaway: Lancome's Définicils Precious Cells Mascara

As I mentioned yesterday, Lancome is clearly the leader when it comes to mascaras. Yes, there's a mascara that will satisfy your every need, including the new Definicils Precious Cells Mascara. The payoff from this mascara is definitely definition and volume, but it's the first by Lancome to promise to "regenerate the condition of lashes" and "minimize lash loss"! Sounds like a must-try, right?!

So who's interested in trying this out and reporting back (by leaving a comment) your thoughts? Simply leave a comment below- no later then 11:59pm today (July 29th) and a winner will be chosen at random and announced on Friday, July 30th. Mischo Beauty Superstar of the Week: Lisa Eldridge

As much as I love reading the international editions of Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Glamour and many others, surprisingly it wasn't through these publications that I discovered the work of celebrity makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge (though her work has appeared in those listed and many more!). Twitter is to blame! Someone on my timeline retweeted Lisa, which led me to her Twitter page, website, portfolio and YouTube videos- and the rest is history! Her work is amazing and I thought you should know about her. Enjoy!

Mischo Beauty Pick: Mark Cosmetics' Glowdacious Illuminating Powders & Totally Balmed SPF 15 Tinted Lip Balms

The makeup I've been wearing as of late has been melting right off of my face. I'm only partly blaming the weather (yes, it has been 90++ degrees for a few months now) because I did make a promise to myself to try and get as many steps in each day (the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge is still going on!), so that means walking up escalators and of course, taking the steps instead of the elevators! And so because of all of this, I've reduced my makeup down to the basics, and that's where Mark comes into play.

I've substituted my regular blushes for Mark's Glowdacious Illuminating Powders in "Prettied Up" and "Shimmied Up". Both give you a hint of color, along with a little bronzing and highlighting. And on my lips, I've been using "Totally Cute" and "Totally Pink" for just a hint of color. Both are sheer and are actually tinted lip balms with the bonus of being formulated with a SPF. They're perfect for me at the moment because believe it or not, my lips have been so dry lately...

Like Mark products? Would love to know.

Mischo Beauty: Guerlain Spring 2010 Makeup Collection

What's not to love about Guerlain's newest makeup collection? It's lux cosmetics at its best! And if you haven't seen the collection in-person, then you need to run to your nearest makeup counter THIS weekend!

The collection, called Cherry Blossom, is described as "la vie en rose with an Asian twist". The blush (Blush Eclat in Cherry Blossom) and eyeshadow (Eye Shadow Palette in Jeu D'Ombrelles) were inspired by the colors, tones and softness of the Far East's Cherry blossoms.

The lipstick girl in me (yes, I do prefer lipstick over lip gloss- any day!) loves the two new lipstick lines- Rouge G le Brillant and KissKiss Strass. Both are sheer (which makes them perfect for a day look) and deliver high-shine.

Oh, and I can't forget to mention the luxurious packaging! Again, lux at it's best! Wouldn't you agree? And I must know- are you a lipstick or lip gloss girl, and why?!

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: NARS & Thakoon Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Since we all pretty much HEART anything NARS, I decided to share with you all the makeup look at the Thakoon AW2010 show. Designer Thakoon Panichgul states, "I was inspired by the costumes of Chopinot & Gaultier's Le Defile show and wanted to create a collection that reflected that same era but without the goth element."

"The look is fresh, beautiful, luminous and quite confident, " said lead NARS artist Diane Kendal. "We focused on a strong brow and highlighted the eyes to show depth and boldness in a way that wouldn't fight with the various textures, layers and colors of the collection".

The fall 2010 makeup collection will include the following, which were used in the show:

- Douceur Blush (try Lovejoy or Madly Blushes for a similar effect)
- Coconut Grove Single Eyeshadow (try Bali Single Eyeshadow for a similar effect)
- Tzarine Duo Eyeshadow (try Orgasm Illuminator for a similar effect)
- Portobello Duo Eyeshadow
- Tashkent Pure Matte Lipstick (try Belle de Jour Velvet Matte Lip Pencil for a similar effect)
