Beautiful hair needs an expert: Davines Wizards No. 9 Structuring Mist Finishing Spray

I love Davines products and you all know how much I love the Lovely Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner. Well another Davines product that I'd recommend would be the No. 9 Structuring Mist Finishing Spray. My experience with this spray was always for finishing purposes- updos, half-updos, blow-outs and flat iron finishes.

What I loved most about it - along with the shine- was that the hold was flexible which meant that if my client wanted to restyle or run her fingers through her hair, she could with no issues. Believe me- not an issue with me- due to the fact that I'm always one to leave my stylist's chair, get into the car and restyle my hair in the rear view mirror! I think this hairspray is perfect for the jet-setting Beyonce, who's been wearing a half-updo on the promotion tour for her upcoming album.

Have you tried this hairspray?

Mischo Beauty Pick: Cosmo's Sexiest Beauty Secrets: The Ultimate Guide to Looking Gorgeous

If you love Cosmopolitan Magazine, then you'll love their newly released beauty bible, "Cosmo's Sexiest Beauty Secrets". This beauty book is written by the editors of Cosmopolitan Magazine and includes hundreds of tips/tricks on achieving a glowing complexion, silky hair, soft skin and the most kissable lips.

I loved the step-by-step guides included in each section and I totally agreed with the secrets in the "Spoiling Yourself Spa-Style" section. There's nothing better than relaxing in a nice warm bath with a mask of your choice. The steam from the bath definitely aids in the absorbtion of the mask's ingredients into your skin. Oh, and did I mention just how great it all feels? Blissful!

Mischo Beauty School: Wella Professionals Fun Stats On Haircolor

Good morning everyone! This week again, I'm turning today's lesson over to the experts at Wella and here are a few fun facts on haircolor that they've compiled:

Did you know?

70% of women agree that hair color products used in salons are better quality

32% of women chose "good friend" as the best way to describe their relationship with their colorist

29% of women said that blonde is the hair color they most wish they could pull off over 23% who picked red (I'm a natural redhead- go redheads!!) and 21% who picked brunette

55% of women know how permanent hair color works

45% of women surveyed are interested in the science behind how hair color works

If you've been following my blog, then you're probably familiar with my "Mischo Beauty School: Haircolor 101" post, and at the very least, you now understand that haircolor falls into four categories.

Well, here's your chance to learn more! Please send me your haircolor questions and I'll get back to you with answers!

Beautiful hair needs an expert: Kerastase SPECIFIQUE

By now you all know how much I love Kerastase products. Well, I've just learned about a new line of products by Kerastase called SPECIFIQUE, for those who suffer from scalp concerns including dandruff, oily scalp or thinning hair. This line is scheduled to be released next month and while it addresses specific scalp concerns, it also leaves the hair looking healthy.

Now my recommendation for Miss Naomi would be the Bain Densitive GL shampoo and the Lotion Densitive GL which are both recommended for thinning hair and are formulated with the "Complexe Gluco-Impulsion" technology which works to sooth and calm the scalp, while adding substance and texture to the hair.

I can't say that I know the cause of her thinning edges- could be due to years of wearing extensions/weaves, over-styling for fashion shows & photo shoots, or various other external/internal causes. Whatever the cause might be, I would suggest a dedicated haircare regimen for a minimum of six months to a year in order to see improvement.

What Kerastase products do you use? Do you have issues with thinning hair?

Mischo Beauty Review: The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own

I'm sure most of you have seen Nina Garcia's "The One Hundred" in bookstores by now. I recently had the chance to read through it one night while my friend, Andrea, took out my extensions. If you were a fan of her first book "The Little Black Book of Style", then you'll love this one. Nina's goal with this book was to answer the question "What are fashion's timeless pieces" and she answers it with a guide of 100 items she believes will never go out of style.

To my surprise, one of the items is a cosmetics bag which she feels every woman should have! I totally agree with Nina, as I'm in love and never leave home without my gold sequins cosmetics bag. She goes on to state that she has the satin Prada cosmetics bag (in four colors) ("I DIE!") and it's really what's inside that counts, but that you do want it to look nice when you pull it out of your bag. I loved this book!

Mischo Beauty Pick: Weleda Almond Facial Care

If you have sensitive or easily sensitized skin, then you'll definitely want to try Weleda's Almond Intensive Facial Cream. It's a very rich moisturizing cream that's free of fragrances, preservatives and mineral oil. It contains almond and plum kernel oils which moisturize, protect and sooth the skin and should be applied both morning and night to your face, neck and decollete (second face!). My skin, for the most part, is normal, but easily sensitized and on the drier side moving from the fall into winter and so this was the perfect time for me to work this into my skincare regimen.

I've been using this at night (my personal preferance) and my skin feels soft, smooth and nourished in the moring, which I'm loving- and I also love the fact that it's part of a range of products including the Almond Cleansing Lotion, Almond Moisture Cream, Almond Facial Masque and Almond Facial Oil (perfect for those of you who are working to establish a skincare regimen!). Please stay tuned for my review of the Wild Rose Cleansing Lotion.

Have you tried Weleda products?

Mischo Beauty School: Wella Professionals Debunks Popular Haircolor Myths

I'm so excited about today's post because as you all know, my love of hair is what started all of this! I love haircolor. With that said, it's my goal to educate you as much as I can so that you are able to make educated and informed decisions when it comes to your hair.

You might remember my "Mischo Beauty School: Haircolor 101" post, where I discussed the four haircolor categories. Well most recently, Wella Professionals recently shared with me what women are really thinking when it comes to coloring their hair and here are the results from the survey:

1. For the best color advice, talk to your friends.

False: Most women surveyed- 69% said that they got most of their hair color advice from a colorist/stylist. From the remaining women surveyed, 4% chose to get most advice from a friend and 7% chose articles in magazines. Having a consultation with your colorist is crucial as he or she is the most knowledgeable source in hair color theory and can give the best recommendation on which color compliments your skin tone, eye color, fashion style, and personality.

2. Highlights are taking the salon industry by storm.

True: 46% of women surveyed chose highlighting as the service they most frequently request at the salon, over full-head haircolor at 35%, fashion/bold color accents at 4% and color gloss/glaze at 1%. Being in touch with the industry, Wella recently launched a new highlighting technique called Cosmic Blonde, which uses state-of-the art lightening technology to create a unique, shimmering "cool-warm" effect to highlights, making everyone's favorite salon service even trendier. Be sure to ask your colorist about the latest techniques, as trends and color services are constantly evolving.

3. Coloring your hair makes it appear less healthy.

False: Actually, coloring your hair can add a lot of benefits including leaving hair shinier (91% of women surveyed agreed) and well-conditioned (89% of women surveyed agreed). Plus, 29% of women surveyed said the overall health of their hair was actually healthier after hair coloring. Only a professional colorist knows how to best apply color correctly in order to leave your hair shiny and beautiful.

4. The main reason women don't color their hair is because they don't want to change their natural color.

True: 55% of women surveyed said they haven't colored their hair in the past year because they like their natural hair color. Only 3% said they don't color because they have no gray to cover. However, if you love your natural haircolor, that's all the more reason to get a professional service to enhance it! Everyone can benefit from a demi-permanent color, such as Wella Professionals Color Touch, because its gentle formula actually leaves hair shinier and well conditioned, thus enhancing your natural color and improving the condition of your hair. Additionally, it doesn't leave a demarcation line because it washes out.

5. Consumers don't know the difference between semi, demi and permanent haircolor.

True: 47% of women surveyed said they didn't know the difference. However, knowing what to ask from your stylist or colorist at the salon makes the difference between fabulous color - or months of regret. Semi permanent can last 1-3 weeks, demi permanent can last 4-6 weeks, and permanent is, well, permanent and lasts until it grows out. So a proper consultation process is important to determine what you're looking for out of your color treatment.

6. Consumers don't think it's important to get to know their colorist.

False: Actually 73% of women surveyed think it's important for their colorist to know their personality and to make small talk at their appointments. In fact, 38% of women surveyed even said that if they were throwing a party, they would invite their colorist/styist! The more your colorist gets to know you and your style, the more insight they'll have on what you might like, what color will be easiest to maintain, and what best suits your lifestyle.

7. Professional products designed for color-treated hair help maintain color between salon visits.

True: 79% of women surveyed agreed that professional products will help keep haircolor from fading in between salon visits. Wella Professionals Color Preserve Care and Styling collection protects and preserves up to 78% more haircolor (as compared to leading professional products).

8. Everyone must color their hair every four weeks.

False: 22% of women surveyed color their hair every 2 to 3 months and 18% of women said they color every 4 to 6 months. It really depends on individual hair color needs, the level of technique performed on the hair, and whether you're using a semi, demi or permanent color. For example, natural looking highlights often require more frequent maintenance than single process color. (On average, colorists may recommend follow-up visits every 6-8 weeks in order to keep color looking fresh and natural).

9. Celebrities and magazines are most influential in what new service or technique a consumer might try.

False: 74% of women surveyed said that a recommendation from a stylist or colorist would be the most influential in determining if they tried something new. A good number of stylists and colorists attend educational seminars, which means they are constantly learning new techniques and gaining knowledge on the latest trends. Who do you think styles celebrities in the first place? They don't color their own hair, that's for sure! In order to stay ahead of the trends, stylists and colorists can enroll in Wella trend and styling seminars at The Studio.

10. Haircolor can make you feel better about your appearance.

True: 69% of women surveyed said they feel attractive immediately after having their hair colored and 61% feel confident. Whether you're changing your hue to something more bold and adventurous or just touching up the roots, haircolor adds richness and vibrancy so that your hair appears healthy and shiny, making everyone around you take a second look!

Beautiful hair needs an expert: Sebastian Professional Re-Shaper

I've recently rediscovered Sebastian products since attending a reception during Fashion Week sponsored by Sebastian and being given the opportunity to try the Re-Shaper, Potion 9 Light and Whipped Creme. And now, it just so happens that the salon where I'm completing my apprenticeship uses the whole line of products on it's clientele.

Well I must tell you all how fabulous the Re-Shaper is! It's a humidity resistant, strong hold hairspray. It's perfect for all hair types and it's so great because it will allow you to style and restyle your hair with no issues. I've seen it used in the salon for Updos, Half-up Updos and for the basic hold of any style. Now I think this is the perfect product for Beyonce, who's been seen wearing a Half-up Updo since the launch of her new video "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)", and I'm recommending it for you as well!

Do you have any Sebastian favorites?

Mischo Beauty Pick: "The Solution" by Envision Beauty

Those of you who follow me on Twitter, probably know that I fell in love with Kimberly Snyder's Envision Beauty blog about a month or so ago. Since I'd recently stepped up my workout regimen, I knew I needed to make changes to my diet and so I was interested in the tons of information, tips and recipes on incorporating living food (raw food) into my diet- so much so that I ran out to buy the ingredients for the "Glowing Green Smoothie" - and I also love the detox tea!

After emailing Kimberly several questions about her various blog posts, she offered me the opportunity to try "The Solution". This anti-aging product can be characterized as a combination of products (moisturizer, eye cream , serum, etc.) all in one. It's free of parabens, ethyl alcohols and harsh synthetics and is full of ingredients that repair, regenerate, firm, tone, nourish, moisturize and fight aging. Wow! You all know how serious I am about my skincare regimen, so I couldn't wait to try this! While I've just started to use this- I'm loving the results thus far and can't wait to try the Brightening Cleanser and Exfoliating Cleanser, which will launch in Spring 2009!

Have you tried "The Solution"?
