Mischo Beauty Review: Xtreme Lashes by Rachel Grante

The gorgeous woman in the photo above is hairstylist, makeup artist and eyelash stylist, Rachel Grante. She is the one responsible for my latest application of Xtreme Lashes. It's been a little over a year since I last had lash extensions, so yes, I was definitely overdue! And so the procedure with Rachel began with a comprehensive questionnaire, which included questions regarding one's lifestyle, skincare regimen, desired results and most importantly, questions to ensure there are no contraindications.

The next part of the service involved cleansing and priming my natural lashes, followed by the actual application of lashes. During this process, the natural lash is isolated, followed by the coating of the lash extension base with XLFlexFusion adhesive, followed by the application of the extension one-by-one to the natural lashes. Depending on the number of lashes desired on each eye, application time can take up to two hours. I requested somewhat of a dramatic look (you can see my before and after on the Mischo Beauty Facebook fan page) and I loved the outcome!

The extensions last 4-6 weeks, with a touch-up needed usually every two weeks (your natural eyelashes shed similar to the hair on the rest of your body). I was advised to avoid water, steam, excessive heat and other activities for the first 48 hours to allow the adhesive to dry thoroughly. The lashes are gorgeous and I've received tons of compliments - and yes, that was the goal! Mission accomplished!

Are you using hair bonding glue instead of an eyelash adhesive to apply your lashes?

Earlier this week I followed a Twitter conversation between celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine and a few of his followers who swore by using hair bonding glue (yes, I'm talking about hair weaving glue!) over eyelash adhesive to apply lashes. And honestly, it wasn't the first I'd heard of this. I took a makeup class last summer and a few students also swore by hair bonding glue. Now, since when was hair bonding glue approved to use on the eyes??? Oh, and just in care you're wondering, Sam did stand firm on using a proper eyelash adhesive - his favorite being DUO.

So my question for you today is: Are you using hair bonding glue instead of an eyelash adhesive to apply your lashes?

Mischo Beauty School: Eyelashes 101

As I mentioned earlier today,I recently started taking a makeup class that has added more fuel to my fire and I'm loving it! I've fallen in love with eyelashes and brows all over again and wanted to share with you a quick lesson on applying artificial eyelashes- specifically, band eyelashes.

Band eyelashes (also called strip eyelashes) are applied to the natural eyelash line, using an adhesive, and are meant for single use (though you can easily remove the adhesive and use again!). They're available in human hair, animal hair, synthetic fibers, and in a variety of colors. And so very quickly, here are ten easy steps for application:

1. Always wash your hands first to avoid infection.
2. Decide on length and desired effect of band eyelash.
3. Curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler.
4. Apply eyeliner based on your desired effect.
5. Remove band eyelash from package, measure and trim to fit the curve of your eyelid.
6. Apply a thin strip of adhesive to the eyelash band and allow to set for a few seconds.
7. Apply the band eyelash to the eyelash line.
8. Use tweezers to gently press and set it.
9. Retouch the eyelash line with eyeliner and you're done!
10. Repeat steps for second eyelash.

Eyelashes are easily removed using eyelash remover or makeup remover, so no worries. Oh, and if you lose a few of your own lashes in the process of removal, don't fret- your eyelashes will grow back just the same as the rest of the hair on your body! Any questions? Love your lashes.

Mischo Beauty Pick: Lashes by Ja'Maal Buster - The Eyelash Guru To The Stars

A few months ago I tweeted about ordering lashes by Ja'Maal Buster, "Eyelash Guru To The Stars", and I did receive them- "Trophy Wife", "Gold Digger", "2nd Date Guaranteed" and "Daddy's Little Girl". Well I've finally gotten around to testing/reviewing them, and let me just tell you that they are FABULOUS (as you can see above)!

Application is simple- just remember these steps. Oh, and you will need to purchase your own lash adhesive/glue, because it's not provided. While I'm not planning to wear them to work (they'd be too much of a distraction), I am planning to wear them out every chance I get- as you can see why!

Mischo Beauty: Eyelash Exentions at The John Barrett Salon

I've been wanting eyelash extensions for some time now, and I recently had the service performed by Joe at The John Barrett Salon at Bergdorf Goodman. Joe is the lash extension expert at the salon, and after meeting him and learning more about the procedure, I felt as though I was in good hands. The procedure begins with completing a questionnaire to ensure there were no contraindications (medications, contagious diseases, skin disorders, medical conditions or skin irritations) which would have prevented me from receiving the service.

The next part of the service involved Joe applying individual lashes using a semi-permanent bonding glue to each of my lashes, with a total application time of two hours. I requested that the lash extensions look as natural as possible and I was pleased with the outcome! The extensions last 4-6 weeks, with a touch-up needed usually every two weeks (your natural eyelashes shed similar to the hair on the rest of your body).

Now I was advised to refrain from allowing them to get wet the first 24 hours, as well as to avoid swimming, working out, etc. But you all know me, there was no way I was not going to work out! So while I didn't swim, I did work out and I had no major issues with loss/shedding. I will tell you though, that I was definitely due for a touch-up after two weeks.

Overall, I loved them and received tons of compliments- no one knew they were lash extensions and that was the goal! Mission accomplished!

Have you had lash extensions? If so, what was your experience?

Mischo Beauty Pick: Revlon's Fantasy Lengths Maximum Wear Self Adhesive Eyelashes

A few months ago I told you how much I liked Revlon's Fantasy Lengths Maximum Wear Glue On Eyelashes, and most recently they've launched the same styles with a "self adhesive technology". I recently tested out the "Intensifying" and "Defining" styles and I highly recommend them.

The same application steps apply, as with "glue on eyelashes", except for the fact that there is an adhesive glue strip attached to the lashes. Just remember that they are for "temporary" wear, but they can be reused- thanks to the extra self adhesive strips included with the lashes!

Oh, and also- practice makes perfect- so don't wait for a special occasion to test these out. Buy a pair for practice to ensure a seamless application.

Mischo Beauty School: Eyelashes 101 & Revlon's Fantasy Lengths Maximum Wear Glue On Eyelashes

If you've been following my blog, you probably know how to apply lashes by now, right? If you need a refresher, please visit my "Mischo Beauty School: Eyelashes 101" post from last month, and please feel free to leave questions for me in the comments section.

So, I have to let you know how much fun I've been having with Revlon's Fantasy Lengths Maximum Wear Glue On Eyelashes. You might remember me telling you a few years ago that lashes were my favorite beauty accessory, inspired by the first Mischo Beauty Icon, Diana Ross, and her iconic look of the 60’s/70’s.

Well the Revlon Fantasy Lengths collection includes five different eyelash styles and comes with a set of eyelashes, eyelash adhesive and an instruction guide. Four easy steps, and with a little practice, you've got new lashes!

I just realized that Revlon's website doesn't list the eyelash styles included in the collection, so I've decided to include photos (please pardon the flash!). Pictured above is style called "Defining", which I believe will give you the most natural look- if trimmed down...

And then there's "Lush"...

A style called "Chic"...

"Minx" is the "party" lash style...

And the style called "Blue Shadow" (the lashes are actually blue!) is simply put- FIERCE!
