Mischo Beauty School: Serums 101
After using Nude Skincare's Advanced Cellular Renewal Serum for the past few weeks and loving it, I thought it would only be appropriate to remind you of the many benefits of serums. And yes, you really should consider incorporating one into your skincare regimen!
A serum is simply a highly concentrated treatment of active ingredients used to penetrate and treat various skin conditions such as dehydration, stress, environmental damage, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation issues or loss of elasticity.
They're usually made up of vitamins, lipids or antioxidants and are usually the consistency of a thin liquid. To allow for maximum penetration into the skin, they're formulated with smaller molecules which make them extremely effective. They can be used both day and night and are usually applied under a moisturizer, but can be used alone. During a facial an esthetician might apply a serum under your mask or before the application of your moisturizer, depending on your specific skincare needs.
So, do you need a serum? Well, I would suggest following a consistent skincare regimen first. Once you're consistent with your regimen, really begin to pay attention to your skin and make note- for example- of dehydrated areas, loss of elasticity and dullness. If your skincare regimen doesn't correct these issues, then I'd highly suggest investing in a serum! Please feel free to e-mail me with questions! Love your skin.

Mischo Beauty: Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex
Estee Lauder was the first cosmetics company to introduce night-time repair to the anti-aging category by introducing the original Night Repair. The advanced formula contains Chronolux Technology (addresses past damage and prevents future damage) and Alkyl Guanine Transferase, which specifically helps repair visible damage from smoke and pollution (toxins and chemicals).
Those of you in search of a serum should consider giving this a try and including it in a consistent skincare regimen!

Mischo Beauty Pick: ANEW Clinical Derma-Full X3 Facial Filling Serum
You might remember my Mischo Beauty School: Serums 101 post, where I discussed what exactly serums were and how you might benefit from them. And just to refresh your memory, serums are highly concentrated treatments of active ingredients used to penetrate and treat various skin conditions such as dehydration, stress, environmental damage, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation issues or loss of elasticity.
Well AVON recently introduced their ANEW Clinical Derma-Full X3 Facial Filling Serum, which is an injectable-grade topical treatment. Hyaluronic Acid is a key ingredient used to fill fine lines and wrinkles, so what this means for you is: 1) it's the strength used in Dermatologist's offices, so similar results should apply; 2) it's a topical treatment, so there's no worry about pain- no needles!; and 3) it costs a fraction of what you'd normally pay for a treatment at a Dermatologist's office.
The proposed benefits, plus the price ($54), make this totally worth a try!

Mischo Beauty: 3LAB Fashion Week Survival Kit
Because my degree is in chemistry and one of my goals is to launch a product line of my own one day, I'm loving the fact that 3LAB was founded by two chemists and a dermatologist! 3LAB is best known for producing products with the highest-grade of botanical ingredients and the highest percentages of anti-oxidant ingredients in the industry. Wow!
So when 3LAB heard about my plans for Fashion Week (yes, I'm anxiously counting down!) they were so gracious enough to send me a 3LAB Fashion Week Survival Kit. It includes the Perfect Cleansing Scrub, Perfect Repair and the WW Eye Cream. I will post my full review in a few weeks, as I prefer to test skincare products for a minimum of 3-4 weeks (as most of you know) - so please be sure to check back! Until then, I will be taking advantage of all the beauty sleep I'm able to get, (skin cells repair themselves most when we're sleeping) because I'll need all the energy I can get in preparation for my upcoming Fashion Week adventure!

Mischo Beauty School: Blackheads 101
After reviewing my previous posts on facials, exfoliation, serums, facial masks, facial cleansing, etc. I just realized that I've never discussed blackheads, or as they are technically called, "open comedones". Blackheads are simply a build up of hardened oil and dead skin cells in a hair follicle; and when the hair follicle is exposed to oxygen, it oxidizes and turns black- therefore the name "blackhead". I've seen blackheads on just about every skin type, but particularly on those with oily skin and oily t-zones. Here are ways to prevent them:
1. Use skincare products with noncomedogenic ingredients (will prevent pores from clogging)
2. Cleanse your skin both morning and night
3. Incorporate an exfoliant into your skincare regimen (will remove dead skin cells)
4. Incorporate a "clay-based" mask into your skincare regimen (will draw excess oil out of the follicle)
5. Incorporate a facial (professional cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, steam treatment, massage, etc) by an esthetician into your skincare regimen (the benefits are countless!)
Because my skin is pretty much normal, but with an oily t-zone, my blackheads show up around my nose and between my eyebrows. I'm able to keep them under control with exfoliation, using a clay-based mask on those areas only, and monthly facials.
Any questions? Love your skin. Read More......
