Mischo Beauty School: Eyelashes 101

Lashes are my favorite new beauty accessory and my biggest challenge when it comes to applying my own. While I’ve mastered applying them to clients - technique and control definitely come from practice.

At any rate, there are two types of artificial lashes- band lashes and individual lashes. Band lashes (also called strip lashes) are applied to the natural lash line, using an adhesive, and are meant for single use. Individual lashes are applied to the lash line one at a time, using a lash glue, and last up to two weeks. The adhesive or glue is the product used to make the lashes adhere, or stick, to the natural lash line. Artificial lashes are available in human hair, animal hair, synthetic fibers, and in a variety of colors.

Procedure for Applying Band Lashes:

1. Always wash your hands first to avoid infection.

2. Decide on length and desired effect of band lash.

3. Curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler.

4. Apply eyeliner based on your desired effect.

5. Remove band lash from package and trim to fit the curve of your eyelid.

6. Apply a thin strip of lash adhesive and allow to set for a few seconds, before applying to the lash line.

7. Apply the band lash to the lash line.

8. Use tweezers to gently press and set the band lash.

9. Retouch the lash line with eyeliner.

Lashes can be easily removed using a warm compress or make-up remover.

Love your lashes!

Any questions?

Beauty Blogs Come of Age: Swag, Please!

My very first beauty blog was "I Love Mischo" and I started it because of my new found excitement and passion for just having received my cosmetology license and just having started my apprenticeship at Vidal Sassoon. I felt that this was one of the many ways to share with the world all that I had learned and was so passionate about. It evolved into "Mischo Beauty", as I have since then received my makeup artistry license and esthetics license. Any one who knows me, knows that beauty is my passion. It started with me doing my dolls hair when I was little and continued on to my selecting to analyze the chemical composition of "lye vs. no lye" relaxers for my final project in my Analytical Chemistry course at Spelman College. At one point over the past few years while working my corporate job, I also worked at a hair salon, a day spa and went to cosmetology school full-time. Yes, three jobs and school all at the same time! The greater the challenge, the greater the reward...

I share this with you to let you know that I don't blog to receive free beauty products, actually I haven't received anything free as of yet! And, I don't think there's anything wrong with blogging about free products. If I've used a product I've stated that I have, and if I don't like a product I will share that with you as well. See my post for the YSL mascara. At any rate I love my blog and I love those of you who continue to support me. Thank you. Also, thank you to all of you who've volunteered over the past few years to be hair models, waxing models, eyebrow/lash tinting models and facial models. I could not have achieved all of this without you!

I recently purchased CoverGirl’s Lash Blast Mascara in black brown. I must admit that the print ad campaign was what encouraged me to try it. The packaging is somewhat bulky and it was separately capped, allowing you to replace the cap with the brush after using. I’ve been using it for several weeks now and what I love most is that it completely separates my lashes and gives them a “thicker, fuller” look. No lash clumping at all. Well worth the $7.65!

I'm wearing Essie's "Wicked" and I love it! Chic, dark colors look best on short, manicured nails. Also, remember to use a base coat to keep the polish from staining your nails.

Mischo Beauty Review: Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara

Described as having a “triple-film complex”: a coating film for intensity, a conditioning film for curve, and a fixing film for long-lasting effectiveness. The brush applicator combines nylon fibers of varying diameters for volume enhancement. The result for me was pure disappointment. A waste of $26.50. The mascara comes out of the tube lumped on the brush applicator. The brush applicator itself is so full of mascara that after application it causes the lashes to stick together. If I close my eyes I find mascara below my lower lash line. If I blink too hard, I find mascara on my eye lid. It never seems to "set". No fun at all… It failed to achieve it’s promised “Volume Effet Faux Cils".

The Mischo Book of Beauty: DREAM Book Launch

Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw's (Sex and the City) party to celebrate the launch of her book. And, of course, my publicist (like Carrie's publicist Samantha) will be responsible for the media, sponsors, venue, decor, catering, invites, goodie bags, DJ and the signature cocktail! My publisher will organize and pay for the book tour, and I will be a special invited guest on Oprah to discuss my book.

My DREAM book launch.

Stay tuned...

Sex and the City Quote:

Carrie: Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.
