Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2012"

Like I said last year, it's my goal to continue to be a source of motivation and encouragement when it comes to taking care of yourself internally (internal beauty determines outer beauty!) and so I'm continuing the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2012" challenge. As Oprah always says "when you know better, you do better". We definitely know better, so let's continue to do better!

As before, I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. Ultimately, each of us will do what works best individually, based on our own needs. First on my agenda is to get a new pair of running shoes! As you all know, I recently had a baby and have been living in the most gorgeous women's flats for the past nine months. I'm looking forward to adding to my shoe wardrobe.

So here are a few items to get you started:

1. Invest in a pedometer and track your steps (so, so easy!). You'll be surprised at how you'll push yourself to get more steps in each day without even realizing it! 7,000-10,000 steps a day are recommended for overall good health.

2. Take a multivitamin daily, and drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.

3. Eat fresh green vegetables at least 3x a week, and make sure you're getting adequate sleep!

4. Check out Kimberly Snyder's blog - it's filled with TONS of great tips and Kimberly is such an inspiration.

5. Yoga = JOY. Let me say that again, Yoga = JOY! If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. Consider joining the 21-day yoga challenge here.

6. Enlist a partner (of course someone who shares the same goals) and hold each other accountable. That pretty much speaks for itself, right? It would be a good idea to invest in an ipod so that working out is easy, I know Best Buy iPods are usually cheap and have free shipping.

And just a reminder- this is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but it is an "inner beauty fitness" challenge. If you're fit internally, then there's no denying it externally! So if you lose weight, and that's your goal, then great. I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or a medical doctor - so always seek the advice of your doctor!

I'll try to tweet the things I'm doing daily to keep fit and healthy by using the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2012, so feel free to join me in sharing your updates by using it too!

Are you with me? I hope so! Let's get started!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

So as you all know by now I kinda, well sort of, fell off of the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011" challenge. I had the very best intentions, but circumstances out of my control dictated otherwise. You see, a few months ago, I found out I was blessed with a little bundle of joy (as you can see in the photo above of my friend Shalon and myself) and I realized that I was no longer in control of my eating habits (no morning sickness - thank God!) and energy levels (experienced extreme fatigue) for the first few months.

And yes, it's the reason for the break away from blogging.

So to quickly update you - my eating habits have returned to almost normal, my energy levels are pretty much back on track (given the circumstances) and thank God for prenatal yoga (a life saver) classes twice a week! I'm still using my pedometer (just walking) and trying to get in as many steps as I can daily - and believe it or not, drinking 96 oz of water (has to be ice cold!) daily is a breeze - I pretty much crave it!

Now that you're all caught up with me - it's your turn! Have you been keeping up with the challenge?

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

This is my weekly check-in, and I have a few goodies I'd like to share. First, the green powder pictured above is spirulina, and a friend suggested that I add it to my green smoothies. I haven't yet though, because it's been too cold for smoothies this week! Also, I had an opportunity to try EBOOST - and while I love the concept, I'm not a fan of the taste. I've also tried Sparking ICE and loved the Black Raspberry flavor! It's free of caffeine and calories, but does contain Splenda. And lastly, check out WebMD's "Taking 10,000 Steps a Day May Lower Diabetes Risk"... have you purchased a pedometer yet?

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

So this is my weekly check-in! I wanted to quickly mention the Rene Furterer dietary supplements (for hereditary and sudden/temporary hair loss) shown above. I'm not one to really advocate the use of supplements over a proper diet (as discussed here), but I do understand the need at times. There are circumstances that warrant the use of them. Also, I loved Cooking Light's "12 Ways to Eat More Vegetables and Fruit"... be sure to check it out and let me know your thoughts!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

As promised, I'm checking in! And, as you can see, I'm eating a salad of fresh greens and other vegetables for lunch today- actually I try to do it daily, though I'll admit, it gets boring. But, I'm still challenging myself to fresh green vegetables at least 3x a week - not including the Glowing Green Smoothies I make some mornings. How goes it for you?

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

I hope you all have been able to check out the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011" post by now and have started - or I should say- are continuing on with making healthy changes to your lifestyle. Remember, inner beauty determines outer beauty (as I've said a million times before)!

With that said, I'm happy to present an alternative to the 8 glasses of water we all should really drink daily, and it's Hint Water. It's free of preservatives, sweetners and calories. I mean, it really is just water, but with a "hint" and just a tiny hint (in my opinion) of flavor. I can smell the flavor more than taste it. So for those of you struggling with water, give these a try and let me know what you think!

Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

I love when Oprah says "when you know better, you do better" (a Maya Angelou quote), and so with the success of last year's "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge we all have to agree that we now definitely know better! It's my goal to continue to be a source of motivation and encouragement when it comes to taking care of yourself internally (internal beauty determines outer beauty!) and so I'm continuing on with "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011".

As before, I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. Ultimately, each of us will do what works best individually, based on our own needs. So here are a few items to get you started:

5. Yoga = JOY. Let me say that again, Yoga = JOY! If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. Consider joining the 21-day yoga challenge here.

6. I love Zee's "Firm Determination #10", and I plan to start working on that this week!

7. Enlist a partner (of course someone who shares the same goals) and hold each other accountable. That pretty much speaks for itself, right?

And just a reminder- this is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but it is an "inner beauty fitness" challenge. If you're fit internally, then there's no denying it externally! Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

So I'm checking in, as promised! I wanted to let everyone know that I've recently started working out in the morning, which is so much better then the evenings. I don't consider myself a "morning person", so it's been a challenge. But, I feel amazing afterward, which is why I'm going to continue to push myself . Oh, and I'm still drinking tons of water (from a reusable water bottle, of course!), and wanted to encourage you to get in at least 96 ounces a day.

Are you with me? Let me know!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

So this is my weekly check-in, as promised! I thought I'd share with you a few of the tools/gadgets I use to keep myself motivated and track my progress. They're as follows:

- Virgin HealthMiles Pedometer (perfect for tracking my steps)
- 2 iPods (black & red) (my playlists keep me dancing during my workouts)
- Apple Nike + iPod Sport Kit (tracks my mileage on nikesplus.com)

Now all that I'm missing is a steady workout partner (yes, I still need one!). Anyone interested?

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I think a weekly check-in is in order from now until the end of the year. I'm still wearing my pedometer and challenging myself to get in at least 10,000 steps each day - in addition to doing cardio at the gym. As I stated last week, we're quickly nearing the end of the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge and I want to encourage you all to finish strong. So please keep me updated in the comments section. And so to switch things up, I added fruit smoothies (the one above was made with strawberries, raspberries, bananas, orange juice, ice, flax seed oil and protein powder) to the smoothie routine this week and they are sooooo good!

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

Since we're 3 months out from the end of 2010, I quickly wanted to check in to find out where you are with the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge. I have to be honest and let you all know that I've fallen off here and there over this past year, but each time I've fallen off, I've started right back up again! As you'll remember, this was never a "weight loss" challenge, but simply a challenge to take better care of ourselves. And so I started the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2010 in order to follow tweets about our daily progress. Are you still using it? Soooo, please update me on your progress! Oh, and someone asked about the "glowing green smoothie" I tweet about some mornings. And so here are photos so you're able to see some of the process, as well as the consistency (like applesauce!).

Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I want you all to know that I love and appreciate all of your support, and as the blog continues to grow and evolve, I think what's most important is that I not only discuss external beauty, but internal beauty as well! I love educating you on the health of your hair, skin and nails and I want to be a source of motivation and encourage you to take care of yourself internally as well. And so I've created the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge.

I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. And, I'll try to tweet the things I'm doing daily to keep fit and healthy. I think this will be fun and I hope we can motivate and encourage each other to take better care of ourselves! Here are a few items you may want to do to get started:

1. Join my Nikeplus.com challenge entitled "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010". It's open to everyone- and you don't have to run to join the challenge. You can walk, too!

2. Invest in a pedometer and track your steps. It's recommended that you do 6,000 - 10,000 steps a day for overall good health. I'm currently using a Virgin HealthMiles pedometer (pictured above).

3. Take a multivitamin daily, and drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.

4. Eat fresh green vegetables at least 3x a week, and make sure you're getting adequate sleep!

5. Check out Kimberly Snyder's blog- it's filled with TONS of great eating tips!

6. I'm adding Yoga, so please check out Yoga Journal for information, tips, and suggested yoga studios near you.

This is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but a "get fit" challenge. If you lose weight, and that's your goal, then great. I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or a medical doctor- so always seek the advice of your doctor! I'll be updating my progress daily on Twitter, using the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2010, so feel free to join me in sharing your updates by using it too!

Oh, and if you have tips you feel I should add to this list, please leave them in the comments section and I'll be sure to add them.

Are you with me? I hope so! Let's get started!
