Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2012"

Like I said last year, it's my goal to continue to be a source of motivation and encouragement when it comes to taking care of yourself internally (internal beauty determines outer beauty!) and so I'm continuing the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2012" challenge. As Oprah always says "when you know better, you do better". We definitely know better, so let's continue to do better!

As before, I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. Ultimately, each of us will do what works best individually, based on our own needs. First on my agenda is to get a new pair of running shoes! As you all know, I recently had a baby and have been living in the most gorgeous women's flats for the past nine months. I'm looking forward to adding to my shoe wardrobe.

So here are a few items to get you started:

1. Invest in a pedometer and track your steps (so, so easy!). You'll be surprised at how you'll push yourself to get more steps in each day without even realizing it! 7,000-10,000 steps a day are recommended for overall good health.

2. Take a multivitamin daily, and drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.

3. Eat fresh green vegetables at least 3x a week, and make sure you're getting adequate sleep!

4. Check out Kimberly Snyder's blog - it's filled with TONS of great tips and Kimberly is such an inspiration.

5. Yoga = JOY. Let me say that again, Yoga = JOY! If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. Consider joining the 21-day yoga challenge here.

6. Enlist a partner (of course someone who shares the same goals) and hold each other accountable. That pretty much speaks for itself, right? It would be a good idea to invest in an ipod so that working out is easy, I know Best Buy iPods are usually cheap and have free shipping.

And just a reminder- this is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but it is an "inner beauty fitness" challenge. If you're fit internally, then there's no denying it externally! So if you lose weight, and that's your goal, then great. I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or a medical doctor - so always seek the advice of your doctor!

I'll try to tweet the things I'm doing daily to keep fit and healthy by using the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2012, so feel free to join me in sharing your updates by using it too!

Are you with me? I hope so! Let's get started!

Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011"

I love when Oprah says "when you know better, you do better" (a Maya Angelou quote), and so with the success of last year's "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge we all have to agree that we now definitely know better! It's my goal to continue to be a source of motivation and encouragement when it comes to taking care of yourself internally (internal beauty determines outer beauty!) and so I'm continuing on with "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2011".

As before, I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. Ultimately, each of us will do what works best individually, based on our own needs. So here are a few items to get you started:

6. I love Zee's "Firm Determination #10", and I plan to start working on that this week!

7. Enlist a partner (of course someone who shares the same goals) and hold each other accountable. That pretty much speaks for itself, right?

And just a reminder- this is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but it is an "inner beauty fitness" challenge. If you're fit internally, then there's no denying it externally! Oh, and if there are tips you feel I should add to this list, please leave them in the comments section and I'll be sure to add them.

Mischo Beauty Challenge Update: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I'm quickly checking in to find out how everyone is doing with the challenge. I would love to hear your updates! I was reading Kimberly Snyder's blog, which I'm addicted to, last week and decided to order the Chlorella tablets pictured above. After learning that Chlorella contains 92 trace minerals, vitamins, glycolipids, phycocyanin, sulfolips, carotenoids and so much more - I thought they would be good to keep around. I'm not crazy about the taste as of yet, but I'll let you know more in about a week or so...

Mischo Beauty Challenge: "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010"

I want you all to know that I love and appreciate all of your support, and as the blog continues to grow and evolve, I think what's most important is that I not only discuss external beauty, but internal beauty as well! I love educating you on the health of your hair, skin and nails and I want to be a source of motivation and encourage you to take care of yourself internally as well. And so I've created the "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010" challenge.

I'll provide weekly tips on health, wellness and exercise. And, I'll try to tweet the things I'm doing daily to keep fit and healthy. I think this will be fun and I hope we can motivate and encourage each other to take better care of ourselves! Here are a few items you may want to do to get started:

1. Join my Nikeplus.com challenge entitled "A Healthy, Sexy & Beautiful 2010". It's open to everyone- and you don't have to run to join the challenge. You can walk, too!

2. Invest in a pedometer and track your steps. It's recommended that you do 6,000 - 10,000 steps a day for overall good health. I'm currently using a Virgin HealthMiles pedometer (pictured above).

3. Take a multivitamin daily, and drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.

4. Eat fresh green vegetables at least 3x a week, and make sure you're getting adequate sleep!

5. Check out Kimberly Snyder's blog- it's filled with TONS of great eating tips!

6. I'm adding Yoga, so please check out Yoga Journal for information, tips, and suggested yoga studios near you.

This is not a "weight-loss" challenge, but a "get fit" challenge. If you lose weight, and that's your goal, then great. I am not a dietitian, nutritionist, or a medical doctor- so always seek the advice of your doctor! I'll be updating my progress daily on Twitter, using the hashtag #HealthySexyBeautiful2010, so feel free to join me in sharing your updates by using it too!

Oh, and if you have tips you feel I should add to this list, please leave them in the comments section and I'll be sure to add them.

Are you with me? I hope so! Let's get started!

Mischo Beauty School: Top 10 Anti-Aging Foods (VegNews)

I've decided to resume the "Mischo Beauty School" posts with a focus on internal beauty (as we discussed last week) and anti-aging by sharing with you all a list I discovered in the January/February 2009 issue of VegNews. Now I'm not a vegetarian (at least not yet) but I love reading my friend's copies of VegNews, as I'm always looking to improve my diet. Well in an article entitled "Food for Life" by Angelina del rio Drake, I discovered the "Top 10 Anti-Aging Foods" list.

I loved this list because quite frankly, I enjoy eating just about everything on it and I'm glad to know I'm on the right track! And so in no particular order the list includes:

- Acai
- Avocados
- Beans
- Blueberries
- Dark Leafy Greens
- Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
- Garlic
- Sweet Potatoes
- Tomatoes
- Walnuts

Oh, and while we're on the subject of internal beauty, Kimberly Snyder (Envision Beauty Blog) recently posted a new recipe for her Fall Green Smoothie (thanks to DE for letting me know!), so if you get a chance, please check it out.

I'd love to know your thoughts on the "Top 10 Anti-Aging Foods" list! Are they already a part of your diet? Do you plan to incorporate them? Are there foods missing from the list that we should know about? Please share!
