Mischo Beauty Pick: H2O Bali Breeze Collection

I couldn't let this week end without telling you about H20 Plus' newest, limited-edition body collection, Bali Breeze. I've had this collection in rotation for a while now and use it most often when I need a little "pick-me-up", and this time my working out isn't causing the need for it- no, it's the cold dreary weather in DC.

The collection is a blend of marine botanicals, mango and coconut; and it includes the Rejuvenating Shower Cream, Renewing Sugar Scrub, Luminous Moisture Gloss and the Soothing Body Butter. My recommendation is to use the products on those mornings when you've had to drag yourself out of bed; or after working a long day and you need to revive yourself for an evening full of fun!

If you've tried this line, I'd love to know what you think!

Mischo Beauty Pick: Beau Bain Luxury Bath Bombs

So in continuing this week's theme of "at-home spa treatments", I'm introducing you to Beau Bain's (French for "beautiful bath") bath bombs. If you love taking baths, then you need these in your life now! I received a box of bath bombs which included: Coconut Lemongrass, Rainbow Sherbet, Juicy Peach, White Tea Ginger and Lavender & Black Amber.

I used the Coconut Lemongrass bath bomb this morning and can I just tell you that I didn't want to get out of the bathtub and get ready for work! After watching the bath bomb fizz and bubble in the water, it was the scent that instantly drew me in! The scent is a blend of coconut, lemongrass, peach, sandalwood and lily of the valley- need I say more?!? After soaking in the bathtub for as long as I possibly could, I felt my skin (anxious to feel the results) and yes, my skin felt silky and soft.

You see each bath bomb is handmade with minerals and oils, such as grape seed oil, almond oil, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, avocado oil and olive oil- and I can't forget to mention the shea butter. So, now you know exactly why my skin felt the way it did! Oh, and one more thing- they are chemical and preservative free- so that means no silica, parabens or sulfates. My bath time this morning was heaven and just what I needed to get the day started! Visit Beau Bain to learn more.

Have you tried these bath bombs? What's your favoite at-home spa treatment?

Mischo Beauty Pick: LaLicious Lily Mango Sugar Souffle Scrub & Body Butter

While we're on the subject of at-home spa treatments, you've got to try the product offerings by a brand called Lalicious! I'm using the Lily Mango Sugar Souffle Scrub & Body Butter and I'm loving the textures of both products- the cane sugar crystals in the scrub are finely ground, so I don't feel as though I'm scratching my skin, but I will tell you that the body butter (with a shea butter base) takes a while to absorb- in my opinion. The "Lily Mango" scent smells so good and I love, love, love the fact that the products are all natural, and paraben and sulfate free!

Body scrub/exfoliating treatments at day spas aren't relaxing and pampering for me, though of course I clearly understand the benefits. I prefer to scrub/exfoliate at home in my shower and then follow the treatment with a rich, creamy body butter- and these products allowed me to do just that. My skin feels amazing after using the combination of the two products!

Have you tried any of the LaLicious products?

Mischo Beauty Pick: FarmHouse Fresh

As I've stated many times before, at-home spa treatments are most important to maintaining the time and money spent on trips to the spa. With that said, I'm introducing to you two FarmHouse Fresh treatments I've recently fallen in love with! The first is the Powder Milk Bath Soothing Soak, which is a rich, powdered whole-milk bath that hydrates and soothes the skin. It has a blueberry fragrance that is AMAZING!

The second is the Honey Heel Glaze, which is the perfect pre-polish pedicure treatment to smooth and hydrate the feet. The treatment looks like honey (it contains real honey, aloe leaf juice, pineapple and papaya fruit extracts), smells like cinnamon, and comes with a cute, little application brush. I love the fact that it isn't greasy- my skin absorbed it quickly! My belief is that your feet should ALWAYS be "sandal ready", so this is a treatment I plan to continue to use daily.

After using both treatments and doing additional research, I learned that they were both on Oprah's favorites list and I can totally understand why!

Mischo Beauty: Sienna Miller for Hugo Boss' Boss Orange

So I've just learned that Sienna Miller will be the new face of Hugo Boss' newest fragrance, Boss Orange, and it's scheduled to hit stores in July.

The fragrance is described as "musky, sweet and sexy". This will be the first Boss Orange fragrance, and the ad campaign will include Sienna in both print and television ads.

I loved Sienna in the Tod's ad campaign and I'm looking forward to seeing her in the Boss Orange ads!

Mischo Beauty School: Hair Relaxers & Thinning/Breakage 101

First, I'd like to thank you all for sending me your beauty questions- I love answering them, so please keep them coming! Recently, I've received a few questions with regards to the use of hair relaxers resulting in hair breakage and thinning hair, so I've decided to answer the questions with this post.

So, damage from relaxers can result from a number of different reasons. When you're trying to determine the cause, consider the following:

1. The "strength" of the relaxer might be stronger than what's needed for your particular hair texture. Relaxers come in "mild, regular or super" strengths. For example, if your hair texture is "fine" and you choose to relax your hair, you should only use a "mild" strength relaxer. Using anything stronger will definitely result in damage and possibly hair loss!

2. Your stylist may not be applying the relaxer properly. It should ONLY be applied to your NEW hair growth, every 6-9 weeks, or depending on your rate of hair growth. No overlapping onto previously relaxed hair!

3. Thermal styling might be an issue. Are you frequently using a curling iron, flat iron or blow-dryer? If so, they might be contributing to your hair thinning/breakage. If you have relaxed hair, you should use the least amount of heat to style your hair as possible.

4. Do you color your hair? If you use permanent haircolor, the application should be at least two weeks after relaxing or you will experience thinning/breakage and possibly serious hair loss. Also, because your hair will now have to withstand two chemical processes, you should consider using a mild relaxer.

5. If you're thinning near the scalp, then it's probably from improper application or overlapping of the relaxer onto the previously relaxed hair. If you're thinning along the length of the hair, then it's probably due to excessive heat from a curling/flat iron, blow-drying or constant chemical overprocessing.

Hopefully you and your stylist are able to identify the problem and implement a new haircare regimen. If you feel that your problem is different from those listed above, I'd recommend you visit a Dermatologist. Please feel free to leave questions in the " Comments" section! Love your hair.

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Sebastian Professional, Wella & Malandrino Fall 2009/#NYFW

My absolute favorite show for hair, during fashion week, was the Catherine Malandrino show! The inspiration for the look was drawn from the Surrealist movement, which resulted in the "unexpected and curious".

Eva Scrivo, owner of Eva Scrivo Salon in NYC, customized 90 colored extensions exclusively with Wella Professionals color. Large and small panels of hair were colored in sections of varying widths, so when the hair overlaps in the updo, the colors weave together for a very natural effect, similar to that of wood grain.

Hair was prepped using Sebastian Professional Shine Define to protect it from hot styling tools and also to leave a shinier finish. Next, the hair was tightly combed up to the front/top of the head into one ponytail and sprayed with Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity and Re-Shaper.

The hair was then separated into three sections and extensions were added to create three-four chignons interweaving pieces from the models' real hair.

Shaper Zero Gravity is a dry, brushable lightweight control hairspray and Re-Shaper is a brushable, humidity resistant strong hold hairspray.

The chignons were secured with bobby pins and netting.

As you can see the colored extensions add depth and dimension, while perfectly blending together to add both color and life to the collection. Love it!

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Spanx Fall Preview Suite/#NYFW

Yes, it's true! Even models love SPANX! Chanel Iman and Nia Long visited the SPANX Fashion Week Fall Preview Suite at The Bryant Park Hotel. I had the amazing opportunity to tour the suite while I was in New York this week- and let me tell you- I was in SPANX heaven!

I was shown a preview of the Fall 2009 Haute Contour collection, which was a pleasant surprise! This collection is described as "lingerie-inspired looks designed to shape and enhance your body" and make you "look and feel more confident, chic and contoured". This collection is definitely the sexier side of SPANX, but don't worry- because it still offers the firming, shaping and contouring you all love so much!

To be notified of the launch date for the Haute Contour collection, visit SPANX.com and sign up for the e-mail notifications for first looks and exclusive offers.

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Creative Nail Design & BCBG Max Azria Fall 2009/#NYFW

The nail look for BCBG, "ebonized jewel tones in sapphire and amethyst" was custom created for the runway show by a team of manicurists from Creative Nail Design (CND).

There's a special place in my heart for CND, as I was first trained to do nails using this brand- and since then, I've grown to love many of the brand's products.

CND's lead manicurists at the BCBG show, Cherie Pollard and Angie Wingle, used Stickey Base Coat, Speedy Top Coat, Solar Speed Spray and SolarOil to make sure the models' polish set quickly, didn't smudge, and the cuticles looked groomed and healthy.

For those of you who'd like to custom blend your own color- like the many colors created by CND for Fashion Week, GoIndulge.com will include a free mixing bottle with the purchase of the recipe colors. Use coupon code FWRecipe.

Love the nails? Thoughts on the looks?

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: MAC Cosmetics & Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2009/#NYFW

MAC's lead makeup artist, James Kaliardos, stated that his inspiration for Diane Von Furstenberg was "a woman who's home is everywhere- nomad chic".

And so, the look he created was very clean, sheer, almost nude- perfectly complementing the collection.

Eyes: Soba eye shadow - blended over lids, up past crease, out toward temples and along the lower lashline. Pearl cream colour base- to highlight the inner corner of the eyes. Pro Barelash- foundation toned product applied with a mascara wand combed through brows to diminish natural hair colour.

Face: Studio Sculpt spf 15 foundation- applied as a minimal base to the face. Pro sculpting powder- blended under cheek bones and up toward temples to concur. Pearl cream colour base- touched on the high plane of the cheek bone for highlight.

Lips: Lip Erase- applied in a sheer layer to pale down the lips. Sculpt & Shape in Bone Beige - applied with a lip brush to line the mouth.

The collection is AMAZING, and I was too excited to learn that Diana Ross (Mischo Beauty Icon- well, Diana from the 60's/70's that is!) was present for the show. You may remember her being the face of MAC at age 60!

The looks I've included above were a few of my favorites from the runway.

This is the MAC face chart from the show. Double-click to enlarge it for details.

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Dashing Diva Nail Polish & Akiko Ogawa Ready-To-Wear Fall 2009/#NYFW

Dashing Diva's Alisha Rimando and her nail tech team were backstage at the Akiko Ogawa show on February 15th to apply manicures.

Alisha created a chic, french with a light pink base and a dark faded pink tip using Headliner, Cosmopolitan, Dashing Diva, and Debutante polishes (clockwise above) from Dashing Diva’s new Manhattan Collection.

This collection is amazing- and I love how the nails are a nice, light and fun contrast against the collection.

The makeup was soft, very pure...

And the hair, well the hair was nothing less than a work of art. Loved it!

Your thoughts? Love it?

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: NARS & Herve Leger by Max Azria Fall 2009/#NYFW

NARS was the makeup sponsor for the Herve Leger by Max Azria Fall 2009 runway show. Makeup artist, Diane Kendal drew inspiration from Helmut Newton photographs, using the concept of a brave warrior- strong and fierce.

"The collection is very hard and sculpted so we wanted to keep the skin neutral and show strength through the eyebrows," said Diane.

The focus was a very strong eyebrow with glowy skin, communicating strength without being too bold. "We created very fresh, dewy skin by using the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. It really allowed the skin's natural highlights to shine through," said Diane.

The products used to achieve the look- NARSskin Hydrating Moisture Cream, NARS Concealer, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, NARS Single Eyeshadow in Bali, NARS Single Eyeshadow in Sophia, NARS Eyelash Curler and NARS Lip Therapy Treatment in Rain.
