Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: CND & Joanna Mastroianni Fall 2011

The Spectator manicure, created by CND's Angi Wingle, was the star of the show at Joanna Mastroianni. Using CND's Blackjack as a base, moons were created on each nail using Brilliant White, bordered with Silver Chrome. The nails completed the 60's influenced beauty look of sky-high French twists and fiery orange lips in a runway tribute to photographer Lillian Bassman. And since we're on the subject of nails, don't you just love having a go-to product that never lets you down? Well CND's SolarOil is just that for me, especially with the weather we've had lately. Mischo Beauty Review: CND Shellac Manicure (ISPA 2010)

While attending the ISPA expo last Wednesday, I was happy - no actually too excited to learn that CND (Creative Nail Design) had nail stylists in attendance giving complimentary CND Shellac manicures! Now I know I'm late with this- the buzz around this new technology started months ago. But, better late than never, right? So the big deal is that the "Shellac" technology combines that of a regular manicure with that of a gel manicure to produce a Shellac manicure which lasts 14 days. So it's not actually a gel manicure, but wears like a gel manicure.

During the application (I choose the color "Fedora"), each layer of polish is set under a UV lamp, so there's no drying time. Did the manicure last for me? No. I received the manicure last Wednesday (November 17th) and by yesterday (November 21st), two fingers on each hand had lifted and started peeling (see photo above). It was a 5 day manicure for me. And I won't begin to speculate on why it didn't last - was it the application? or maybe a lotion I used that caused it to lift and peel? I'm not sure. But, I'd love to know if you've tried it and how long it lasted for you...

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: CND & Diego Binetti Spring 2010

CND created the nail look for Diego Binetti's Spring 2010 runway show using the new Colour & Effects collection, which is a full spectrum palette of 50 new creme colours including sheer, semi-sheer and opaque neutrals, pinks, darks and brights from the whitest white to the blackest black. It also includes a collection of three chrome shades to round out the range.

The nail look for Diego Binetti mimicked a sunrise using CND's Studio White, Ivory Coast and Electric Orange (above photo), and Thai nights using CND's Inkwell, Ice Blue Shimmer and colorful rhinestone embellishments (top photo). The looks created are nothing less than AMAZING, and you must click here to see how they complemented the collection!

Mischo Beauty: CND Spring/Summer 2009

I'm not sure if you all remember my visiting the Creative Nail Design Studio during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009. Well, as a follow-up, I was finally able to get my hands on a few shades from the Spring/Summer 2009 collection-beginning top row left: Wildfire, Decadence, Nail Noir, Bisou De Lulu, Moonlight & Roses, French Pink and Ice Cappuccino.

I'll admit that I'm partial to the "reds", with my favorite being Wildfire. But, the designer favorite nail color/look was CND's Cocoa
("opaque flesh tone shade used to elongate hands and match clean faces") , which was seen at Giambattista Valli, Nina Ricci, Araks, Max Azria, Jason Wu and Thakoon to list a few...

Mischo Beauty Pick: Creative Nail Design's Almond SpaManicure

As you all know by now, I'm professionally licensed to do nails and so I recently had the opportunity to perform Creative Nail Design's Almond SpaManicure on myself. The kit includes the Almond Milk Bath, Almond Moisture Scrub, Almond Illuminating Masque, Almond Hydrating Lotion, Almond Soothing Creme and SolarOil (which you all know I love!).

First of all, the products smell AMAZING! The fragrance alone is enough to make you relax and escape- if just for the duration of the manicure. I'm an exfoliant addict, so I totally appreciated using the Almond Moisture Scrub, which left me with soft and smooth hands. Now, if dry skin is an issue for you, you have the choice of the Almond Hydrating Lotion or the Almond Soothing Creme which both will leave your skin thoroughly hydrated.

The manicure is described as "Escape. Exhale. Relax." and believe me, you'll both experience and feel all three after receiving this manicure. To view a list of spas offering this manicure near you, please visit www.cnd.com.

Mischo Beauty Covers Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Creative Nail Design & BCBG Max Azria Fall 2009/#NYFW

The nail look for BCBG, "ebonized jewel tones in sapphire and amethyst" was custom created for the runway show by a team of manicurists from Creative Nail Design (CND).

There's a special place in my heart for CND, as I was first trained to do nails using this brand- and since then, I've grown to love many of the brand's products.

CND's lead manicurists at the BCBG show, Cherie Pollard and Angie Wingle, used Stickey Base Coat, Speedy Top Coat, Solar Speed Spray and SolarOil to make sure the models' polish set quickly, didn't smudge, and the cuticles looked groomed and healthy.

For those of you who'd like to custom blend your own color- like the many colors created by CND for Fashion Week, GoIndulge.com will include a free mixing bottle with the purchase of the recipe colors. Use coupon code FWRecipe.

Mischo Beauty Fashion Week Coverage: The Creative Nail Design Studio #NYFW

So I'm still on cloud 9 and still processing all that I was able to see and experience at Fashion Week! Please, please accept my apologies for the slow posting! At any rate- I was able to visit the Creative Nail Design Studio at Fashion Week and was blown away! You see, Creative Nail Design taught the nail course while I was in cosmetology school, so I was familiar with their philosophy and product line. And, you all know I love their SolarOil and Spa Marine Masque! It was so amazing to see the nail color concepts/ideas, learn the steps for execution/production and then see the final nail colors on the runway.

The sheets above show the Spring and Summer nail color lines for 2009. I learned that each color for the Spring and Summer 2009 lines is a custom blend, using the current nail colors from Creative Nail Design.

The photo above shows the current colors used to create the Spring or Summer nail colors. We were also able to see what nail colors designers such a Araks, Brian Reyes and Karen Walker used for their runway shows. (double-click on the photo for a larger view)

Araks chose #4 from the Spring 2009 collection, and you're also able to see the 5 nail colors used to create the shade.

Brian Reyes chose #5 from the Summer 2009 collection, and you're able to see the 3 nail colors used to create the shade.

The product of choice to ensure a perfect runway set was Speedey, which is a fast-setting top coat. Stickey, a base coat designed to anchor the nail color, was applied first- followed by two coats of nail color and finished with Speedey.

So there you have it, a behind-the-scenes look at the Creative Nail Design Studio at Fashion Week and I loved it. It's the little things in life that bring so much joy! I can't wait for #6 from the Spring 2009 collection to be released- it was my favorite!

Mischo Beauty Pick: Creative Nail Design Spa Marine Masque

One of my not-so-favorite parts of cosmetology school was my course on nails. I loved learning about all the nail diseases and disorders and of course all the products for nails, but hated working on other people's nails! I will tell you that I do love working on my own nails and lately I've been treating my feet to extra TLC due to the fact that sandal season is here! I love giving my feet a "facial" and the mask I use is the Spa Marine Masque by Creative Nail Design. Near the end of my pedicure, before applying the moisturizer and prepping my toes for nail polish, I apply the mask and allow it to sit for about 15 minutes. It's formulated with a blend of sea extracts, mineral clay and soothing botanicals and it contains natural menthol which provides a "cooling effect" on the feet. I remove the mask with steamed towels and my feet are left soft, smooth and refreshed! I love it!

What are you doing to "treat" your feet?

Mischo Beauty Pick: SolarOil, By Creative Nail Design

I was first introduced to SolarOil about three years ago while completing cosmetology school. A representative from Creative Nail Design taught our course on nails (both natural nails and nail enhancements) and introduced us to just about every product made by the company. As much as I love receiving manicures and pedicures, the nail course wasn't my favorite. And to this day I still can't believe I used to wear long airbrushed tips with an acrylic overlay! I could barely get through the section on nail enhancements due to the odors! At any rate, I will tell you that one of my favorite nail products is the SolarOil, by Creative Nail Design. It's a very light nail and cuticle conditioner which contains a blend of jojoba oil, rice bran oil, sweet almond oil and vitamin E. This blend of oils works to protect cuticles from cracking and conditions the nails, preventing breakage. I love that fact that the SolarOil contains one of my favorite ingredients, jojoba oil! Jojoba oil is very similar to human sebum (the natural oil produced by the human body) and therefore is structured so that it's able to penetrate deep into the skin. This helps with cell renewal and slows signs of aging. And, as we all know, the hands along with the forehead, eyes, mouth and neck all show signs of aging first. While this is used during a manicure or pedicure service, it should also be used nightly.

What do you use to keep your cuticles and nails conditioned? Please share your favorites!
